Monique Mitchell is an emerging actor, artist, and disability advocate based between Boorloo (Perth) and Naarm (Melbourne). A 2025 graduate of WAAPA’s Bachelor of Arts (Acting), driven by a deep belief that theatre and screen are, at their best, collective acts that invite genuine exchange between artists and audiences and possess the capacity to propel systemic change.
With notable early credits stemming from a fondness for Shakespeare, The Tempest (2020) and Romeo & Juliet (2022), Monique is drawn to vibrant, nuanced writing that rewards deliberation, philosophical inquiry, and rigorous analysis. After completing WAAPA’s Diploma of Acting in 2022, she joined Perth Festival’s Seven Sisters (a 2023 PAWA Award nominee and commission for Karratha’s Red Earth Festival), working as a featured performer, deviser, and writer.
Grounded in a reverence for technique and a love of collective ingenuity, Monique’s work is influenced by Declan Donnellan’s attention to the relationship between actor, space, and ensemble, Mary Overlie’s Six Viewpoints, and Stanislavski’s transitive psychology. She leads with impulse, seeking to trust the intelligence of the body, the text, and the discoveries that emerge between the two.
Most recently, Monique concluded a season at the State Theatre Centre Underground, working alongside Cheek by Jowl’s Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod while playing the titular role in Antigone. As a differently abled artist, she remains committed to advocating for richer, more expansive narratives of disability that affirm the presence and power of all bodies across both screen and live performance.
