Website
Miritana was born in Rotorua, New Zealand, to a working class father, and housewife mother. He is of Māori, Australian, Barbadian, and Welsh descent with Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Manawa and Te Arawa tribal affiliations. In Australia, Miritana grew up in state housing in Little Bay, South Sydney on Bidjigal country. He would attend La Perouse Public School, where he would earn the moniker “dark horse”, after a period of delinquency and anger issues. Later, he would be sent to St Stephen’s boarding school, (Tipene), in South Auckland, New Zealand, and after a difficult transition, learn to embrace the teachings and disciplines of Māori Tikanga. Upon completing high school, and after the devastating loss of his mother, Miritana would return to Sydney, Australia to pursue acting. Described as “an unpredictable and raw talent”, he would attend Dean Carey’s The Actor’s Centre, before being accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, (WAAPA), in Perth. After graduating, Miritana would become a cast member of Julie Taymor’s and Disney Theatricals Australian Premiere of The Lion King, and later be known for AMC’s Preacher, BBC’s Wakefield, and ABC’s Born to Spy, among others. Miritana is currently in production on Stan’s Sunny Nights with Will Forte, D’arcy Carden, and RachelHouse, and has an original “traumedy” tv series in development.
