Gennie Nevinson

Born in the UK, daughter of actress Nancy Nevinson, Gennie began her career in film and television at the age of eight. After studying drama, stage design and music she earned her equity card in various repertory theatres throughout England and Scotland. In the 1970s, she lived in Abbey Road, London, touring with the acclaimed musical production, Hair, along with voice work in both live action and animation. A career highlight of this time, was the role of ‘Penny Flyme’, Dennis Waterman’s air hostess girlfriend in TV series, Minder. In 1981, she relocated to Australia to marry fellow actor, Peter Engebretsen. She worked for Bart Cummings doing track work and mucking out stables, until she scored her first Australian role in tv series Sons and Daughters. From there she appeared in numerous TV and film roles, including Carson’s Law, Special Branch, Water Rats, GP and Packed to the Rafters. Gennie also toured schools with the Power of Story and Spellbound stage productions. Then had stint in NZ where she appeared in TV soap Gloss. A career highlight in film was the role of Deidre Chambers (Bill Hunter’s mistress) in Muriel’s Wedding.
