Boris Ivanoff is a Sydney-based writer and director. He is currently in post production on his first feature-length project The Second Casualty, a psychological drama set during the recent war in Afghanistan. His featurette Mountain Fire (2021) was picked up at Clermont-Ferrand and distributed by Gonella Productions. He has also written and directed short films War is Beautiful (2014), Children of Y (2012), and Midnight Patsy (2002), and short documentary, The Second Oldest Profession (2009). He directed short plays Terror on the Northside (winner of Best Production at Short and Sweet 2008) by Venetia Taylor at the Seymour Centre, Living Breathing Loving by Jessica Bellamy at the New Theatre (2008), and Hillary Hillary Hillary! by Venetia Taylor at the Newtown Theatre (2007). He also directed and co-wrote Eternity Lounge: The Film Noir Musical (1999) at the Seymour Centre, from a story he wrote based on an idea by Xanon Murphy, and is currently working on a revival production. He studied Screen and Media at Metro Screen Sydney, and English and Performance Studies at the university of Sydney, including Screenwriting under Keith Thompson, where he topped his class with screenplay Bill’s Last Week. Boris has also worked as a script reader, storyboard artist, cartoonist and illustrator, and undertaken a production development internship at Screen NSW. His petit ouevre has so far revolved around war photographers, life after espionage, transhumanism, and detective fiction tropes, and he is looking forward to broadening his horizons. When not doing something screen related, he is haunted by his unfinished masters thesis, a linguistic analysis of every clause in The Great Gatsby, less an albatross than grit in the oyster of redemption. He is also completing his first full-length play based on his experiences as a government media spy, as well as three television pilots based on stuff he just made up.
